New feature music documentary from LONG STRANGE TRIP’S Justin Kreutzmann, LET THERE BE DRUMS!, will give an inside look into the rich history of drums and drummers alike. The film is written and directed by GRAMMY nominated producer Justin Kreutzmann, with Alex Blavatnik and Bernie Cahill producing. Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, legendary drummers for the Grateful Dead, are the executive producers. The all-new feature documentary will focus on the ultimate history of Rock ’n' Roll as told from a drummer’s point of view.
LET THERE BE DRUMS! will take the viewer on a wild ride from ancient Africa to sold-out coliseums. The journey will be led by Stephen Perkins, the drummer of legendary and five-time GRAMMY nominated Jane’s Addiction. “LET THERE BE DRUMS! is an in-depth conversation with drummers - it’s about the hands, the feet and all the rhythm between. We hear it, we see it, we feel it, it’s everywhere, now let’s explore the ones who play it - the drummers. Now…LET THERE BE DRUMS!" states Perkins.
"Drumming connects us rhythmically to the entire vibrating universe which we are a part of. It’s not just about drums and drumming, it’s the rhythm stupid!! This is why they dance to the beat of our drums," states Mickey Hart.
“I saw a drummer play once when I was a kid and I thought, that's really cool. You know, you're moving. You're using your arms and fingers. So I tried it and I loved it,” states Bill Kreutzmann.
LET THERE BE DRUMS! will feature interviews with drumming pioneers to modern day talents. Production is beginning now.
